How to enable Adaptive Sound on Pixel phones

There's a lot more that goes into a Google Pixel phone other than just providing early access to the latest version of Android and an incredible camera system. Google tends to pack new and useful features that are buried in the settings menu, while also using Pixel phones to serve as a testing ground for future feature releases. Adaptive Sound falls in this category, as the feature was first introduced back with last year's Pixel 5. But now, Adaptive Sound has made its way to the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. What is Adaptive Sound? As a refresher course, Adaptive Sound was first implemented in the Pixel 5 as the phone uses an under-display speaker versus the traditional earpiece. By doing so, this means that your screen vibrates to generate the audio, which means that the sound itself may not be as loud as you might expect. Adaptive Sound compensates for this, by using the built-in microphone to adjust the audio levels based on your environment. Here's Google's explanation found within the Adaptive Sound settings panel: Adaptive sound improves sound quality from your phone speaker. It uses the microphone to assess the acoustics near you, then adjusts the sound equalizer settings for your environment. Despite not being available at launch, Google has since pushed the Adaptive Sound feature to appear on both the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro models. What makes this a bit surprising is that Google's 2021 flagships have traditional earpieces and excellent speakers. How to enable Adaptive Sound on Pixel phones Adaptive Sound is one of those features that you might not have even known was available on your device. It's not widely advertised, and if not for some news posts or this tutorial, it's possible that the feature addition went unnoticed. Additionally, Adaptive Sound comes turned off by default on Pixel phones, leaving you to decide whether you want to enable the feature or not. If that's the case, here's how to enable Adaptive Sound on Pixel phones. Open the Settings app on your Pixel phone. Scroll down and tap Sound & vibration. Select Adaptive Sound. Tap the toggle next to Adaptive Sound to the On position. As a reminder, the feature is currently limited to select Pixel devices. This means you won't find it on phones like the Pixel 3 or Pixel 4, but will find it on the Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 5, Pixel 6, and Pixel 6 Pro. 2021-11-30 18:46 3KB

Humidity changes in dead fern fronds drives unique timing of spore dispersal in a widespread fern species

The sensitive fern—named due to its sensitivity to drought and frost—is a widespread species found throughout eastern North America and eastern Asia. It is a dimorphic plant because it has two distinct types of leaves—one for photosynthesis and one for reproduction. While most fern species in temperate regions produce and disperse their spores in the summer, the sensitive fern has an atypical timing of spore dispersal. In the early summer they produce heavily modified spore-bearing fronds (or leaves) with leaflets tightly enveloping their sporangia and spores. These fronds deteriorate with age, yet continue to persist above ground during the winter as dead mature structures. In the early spring their leaflets open to disperse spores. While the timing of spore dispersal has been observed for over 120 years, the structural mechanisms driving this phenology have remained elusive. 2021-11-30 17:47 8KB

Ancient lineage of algae found to include five 'cryptic' species

All land plants originated from a single evolutionary event when freshwater algae got a foothold on land, giving rise to an astonishing biodiversity of plants on earth. However, the group of algae that would later give rise to land plants had already been living and evolving in both freshwater and terrestrial habitats for over one billion years. There is a tiny group of these algae still living that are most distantly related to land plants. A team from the University of Göttingen honed in on one species of these rare algae, Chlorokybus, that forms "cell packages" and lives in wet soil and rock cracks. The researchers discovered that Chlorokybus contains not one, as previously thought, but at least five different species. The results were published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B. 2021-11-30 15:26 4KB

Researchers prove theorized electron spin-pairing crossover deep inside the Earth

Most are aware that electrons are negatively charged particles that surround the nucleus of atoms and whose behavior governs chemical interactions. However, it is less commonly known that electrons come in two distinct kinds: spin-up and spin-down. The tendency for pairing between up and down spin electrons, forming "dance partners" with one another, is one of the most important behaviors affecting the electron clouds that control the chemistry of nature. Under pressures like those deep inside the Earth, the orbits in which the electrons move are squeezed, the "dance floor" changes. Electron pairs are sometimes forced to change their dance pattern and the way that they partner with one another, giving rise to what is termed an "electron spin-pairing crossover" ("spin crossover" is often used as a shorthand expression). 2021-11-30 12:40 8KB

3D laser nanoprinters become compact

Lasers in conventional laser printers for paper printouts are very small. 3D laser printers for 3-dimensional microstructures and nanostructures, by contrast, have required big and expensive laser systems so far. Researchers of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and the Heidelberg University now use another process for this purpose. Two-step absorption works with inexpensive and small, blue laser diodes. As a result, much smaller printers can be used. The work is reported in Nature Photonics. 2021-11-30 12:34 4KB

Generating glow-in-the-dark light using organic materials

Glow-in-the-dark materials are used worldwide for emergency signs, watches, and paint. This useful characteristic fuels a global market worth approximately US$400 million. But the inorganic crystals that are currently needed to generate this ability to a high level of performance require rare-earth metals and fabrication temperatures of over 1000 degrees Celsius. Now, writing in Nature Materials, researchers from the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) and Kyushu University, both in Japan, have developed a method to generate a glow-in-the-dark light using the more-readily available organic materials. 2021-11-30 12:33 5KB

Why Qualcomm's next flagship chip isn't called the Snapdragon 898

The silicon brain that may be powering your next smartphone has just been unveiled, and unlike rumors had previously suggested it won't be called the Qualcomm Snapdragon 898. This is a new chipset that we expect to see in upcoming top-end phones like the Samsung Galaxy S22, OnePlus 10, Xiaomi 12 and more. It'll be called the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, and you can read everything you need to know about it here. But why has it been given a new name? The different naming structure may confuse people, especially as this isn't a first-gen product. In fact, Qualcomm has been making the chipsets powering some of the most popular phones since 2012. We spoke to Qualcomm about the new name, and here's why the company decided to change it for 2021. and beyond. First, how does this new name work? The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is the name of the new chipset, and future generations of lower-tier Qualcomm series will follow that convention – for example, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1, or Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. This change in naming structure will be used across all variants of the company's technology going forward from this release. It just so happens that it's introduced on the Snapdragon 8 series first. It's still a sequel to the Snapdragon 888 Plus that was introduced earlier this year, and therefore it'll be the company's flagship product for 2022. Ziad Asghar, VP of Product Management at Qualcomm, told TechRadar, “People know that 8 is basically the highest tier that we have. So we thought let’s simplify this – let’s call it the Snapdragon 8. “This one will be called the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, and then as we go further we’ll call it Gen 2, Gen 3 and so on. I think it really simplifies it, and you don’t have to remember three numbers.” Or, conceivably, four numbers, assuming they'd have to go higher after the Snapdragon 898. According to Qualcomm's research, the general public prefers this new naming structure by a ratio of 5 to 1. It may take some getting used to for phone fans, but the idea is that it'll make it easier for the average consumer to understand which silicon is running on their device. Debra Marich, Senior Director of Product Marketing at Qualcomm, told TechRadar during a briefing for the new chipset, "We're strengthening our Snapdragon brand as a standalone product brand for consumers, and we'll be leveraging the equity we've built in the last Snapdragon brand for the past 10 years." It isn’t just the overall name for the Snapdragon platforms that are changing. Asghar confirmed to TechRadar that the company is also changing the names of its other elements that make up the platform. Asghar said, “Underneath, we used to have technologies like the Hexagon 780 processor. So we’ve taken away those [names] too, just such that they’re now associated with each generation of Snapdragon 8. It just makes it very simple.” Expect to see this new naming structure across Qualcomm's products for the foreseeable future. We won’t be getting a Snapdragon 898, but this is the same chipset in all but name and we’ll be looking for a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 come the end of 2022.

Xiaomi’s Poco M4 Pro lands in India as the Redmi Note 11T at cheaper new price

Weeks after Xiaomi launched the Poco M4 Pro 5G in European markets, the company has brought the same device to India — albeit with a major change in branding. In India, Xiaomi has decided to make it part of Redmi’s affordable lineup and market the phone as the Redmi Note 11T. To make matters even more confusing, Xiaomi sells the same phone as the Redmi Note 11 in China. Apart from the significant rebranding exercise, the Redmi Note 11T happens to be quite a bit cheaper than its European sibling. The Redmi Note 11T is a fairly large phone with a 6.6-inch FHD+, 90Hz IPS-LCD panel, and a 5,000mAh battery. The phone also supports an adaptive refresh rate wherein the device automatically adjusts the screen refresh rate depending on the type of content being displayed. The Redmi Note 11T is also among the few devices in its price range to offer stereo speakers. It’s also IP53 rated for dust and water resistance. Unsurprisingly, the Redmi Note 11T uses the same processor — the MediaTek Dimensity 810 — as its other two siblings. Based on a 6nm manufacturing process, the Dimensity 810 is a fairly new chip announced in August 2021. The processor offers a minor performance jump over the older Dimensity 800 chip. This octa-core processor gets four ARM Cortex-A76 cores (clocked up to 2.4GHz) and four ARM Cortex-A55 cores clocked at up to 2GHz. In addition, the chip is 5G-ready and offers support for Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1. Redmi claims that the new phone offers 20 percent better graphics performance over its predecessor — the Redmi Note 10T 5G. The massive camera bump on the Redmi Note 11T with five round cutouts is somewhat misleading at first glance because it actually only houses two cameras and a single LED flash. The camera hardware consists of a 50-megapixel primary sensor, and an 8MP secondary sensor mated to an ultrawide lens with a 119-degree field of view. At the front, the Redmi Note 11T gets a 16MP camera housed inside a punch-hole cutout. The Redmi Note 11T runs MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11 and should receive an official update to Android 12 in the near future. The phone ships with a 33-watt fast charger in India that has a claimed charge time of 60 minutes to reach full from empty. The Redmi Note 11T comes in three variants in India. Here are the details of each of these variants, along with their prices. As mentioned earlier, the phone is quite a bit cheaper than the Poco M4 Pro sold in Europe, where the base 64GB variant starts at $270 and the top-end 8/128GB variant retails for $290. The Redmi Note 11T goes on sale across India starting December 7 and will be available in Stardust White, Aquamarine Blue, and Matte Black color options.

Microsoft brings an Xbox Cloud Gaming feature to Edge to improve visuals

Microsoft has announced that a new Xbox Cloud Gaming feature called Clarity Boost has been released on Microsoft Edge Canary, among other updates. Clarity Boost is said to improve gaming visuals. The feature has first been rolled out to users of Microsoft Edge Canary, which is Microsoft’s experimental browser that receives updates first. Once thoroughly tested by Canary users, the updates are then made available to the stable live version of Edge. To try this out for yourself, you will need both an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription and the Microsoft Edge Canary browser. Alongside the announcement, Microsoft showed off examples of what it is that Clarity Boost does, including a side-by-side in-game comparison. When used in Xbox Cloud Gaming, Clarity Boost will improve visuals by making the stream’s image less blurry and enhancing detail visibility. Although the changes are somewhat subtle, they’re still easy to spot in Microsoft’s comparison. The Clarity Boost image looks sharper, the character’s facial features and hair are more defined, and the entire picture looks more realistic. It’s impossible to deny the increase in quality: Everything just looks much more HD. It’s unclear what technology Microsoft is using to run Clarity Boost in Xbox Cloud Gaming. Microsoft explained that it’s using “client-side scaling improvements” to enhance the image. It’s possible that Microsoft is using some form of A.I. to digitally improve image quality without requiring a lot of processing power. Microsoft Edge Canary has also received a quality-of-life update that can be enjoyed by more than just gamers. The new feature is called Tab Search, and much like Clarity Boost, it’s currently being tested on Edge Canary prior to rolling out to a wider user base. Tab Search is a simple, but useful feature that will let users search for content in all of their browser tabs at once. Instead of clicking from tab to tab and searching manually, users can scour all of their tabs simultaneously. Tab Search has been assigned its own keyboard shortcut: Control+Shift+A. While Tab Search is nice to have, it’s Clarity Boost that will bring some new interest to Microsoft Edge. Historically, Microsoft’s first-party browsers have had a pretty bad rep. Internet Explorer continues to be ridiculed to this day, and although the new Chromium-based Edge has some great features, it’s still nowhere near Google Chrome in terms of popularity.

UK's CMA says Facebook has too much influence in social media and must sell Giphy

The United Kingdom’s Competition and Markets Authority has directed Facebook to sell Giphy over concerns that the acquisition would reduce competition among social media platforms. It said that Meta’s Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram account for 73% of user time on social media in the UK and the purchase of Giphy could limit other platforms’ access to Giphy GIFs and ultimately drive more traffic to Meta-owned platforms. While it’s possible that Facebook wouldn’t restrict access to Giphy GIFs, the CMA worries that it could change the terms of service so that other platforms such as TikTok, Twitter, and Snapchat would be forced to hand over more user data for access to Giphy GIFs. Another aspect that the CMA pointed out is that Giphy was just getting into the ad space in the United States and could have done the same in the UK but won’t have the opportunity to do so if Meta buys it. Meta is already a dominant player in the ad space and this move looks like it’s trying to limit competition. Stuart McIntosh, Chair of the independent inquiry group carrying out the investigation said: The CMA’s announcement said that the competition concerns can only be addressed if Meta sells Giphy to an approved buyer in its entirety. It’ll be interesting to see how Facebook responds to this going forward as it disagrees with the CMA’s line of argument.

Instead, Samsung brought S Pen support to phones like the Galaxy S21 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 3. Also, the company turned foldables into the stars of the second half of the year. But in late September, we learned that Samsung will fix the Note problem in the best way possible. The Galaxy S22 Ultra will come with a Note design and built-in stylus. We’ve seen a plethora of leaks since then and they all paint the same picture of the Galaxy S22. The newest evidence comes from accessory makers who appear to be confident the Galaxy S22 Ultra will have a Note design. It’s not just Galaxy S22 Ultra rumors and renders that we’ve seen for the better part of the past few months. Someone snapped a photo of an S22 Ultra prototype device that looks just like a Galaxy Note. Samsung will reportedly unveil the Galaxy S22 series in mid-February. The closer we get to the launch event, the clearer the picture is becoming. Samsung has undoubtedly finalized the Galaxy S22 series design. And the three S22 models will not be identical. The Galaxy S22 and Galaxy 22 Plus will feature flat screens and rounded corners. The Galaxy S22 Ultra will have rounded screen edges and flat corners. We’ve already explained that Samsung’s Galaxy Note design is a direct consequence of the S Pen. And now, new Galaxy S22 Ultra accessory leaks further indicate that the leaked design is real. The built-in stylus takes up plenty of space inside the Note. As a result, it has to be positioned on the left or right side, as close to the edge as possible. In turn, this means the bottom side has to be flat near the corners. So the top side gets the same flat design. Well-known Samsung leaker Ice Universe posted images and a video of new Galaxy S22 Ultra accessories. The set of images below features a transparent Galaxy S22 Ultra case that gives us the same design story. The phone features rounded edges with flat top and bottom sides. The S Pen stylus opening is also featured in these images. Furthermore, the case leak gives us the same design for the upgraded camera module on the back. Some of the recent Galaxy S22 Ultra leaks indicated that the phone will have four cameras, like last year’s flagship. But Samsung won’t use a metal enclosure for the cameras. Instead, each camera will punch through the glass back. Separately, the leaker posted a video showing other Galaxy S22 Ultra accessories that confirm the big “Note” design for the Ultra. The clip above showcases three alleged Galaxy S22 screen protectors. The left-most accessory is a screen protector with square edges that would fit the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The other two have rounded corners that match previous Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus design rumors. As with all leaks and spoilers, there’s no way to confirm such rumors. But given Ice’s track record and all the previous Galaxy S22 leaks, it’s likely the accessories in these new leaks paint an accurate picture.

December Update Is Live For Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 5G

Once again, has become the first OEM to release the latest Android security patch to its devices. The Korean behemoth has started rolling out the December 2021 SMR (security maintenance release) to the Galaxy Z Flip 5G. The clamshell folding phone is picking up the new update with firmware version F707BXXS6EUK1. According to who first this rollout, the update is available to users in various European countries, including Germany, Portugal, the Netherlands, and the UK. Galaxy Z Flip 5G users in Australia and Singapore are also reportedly receiving the new SMR. You can expect the rollout to expand to more regions, including the US, in the coming weeks. As for the contents of this update, there’s not much to write. We aren’t looking forward to any new features but security fixes only. However, neither Samsung nor Google has published the updated security bulletin for December 2021 yet. We will let you know once we have details about all the vulnerabilities fixed with the new SMR. Samsung has every other Android OEM in releasing the latest security update to its devices for several months in a row. The company rolls out the new update even before the new month has arrived. It has done so once again. The December security patch is now rolling out publicly to the Galaxy Z Flip 5G a day before we flip (pun intended) the calendar to December. This isn’t the first time we are seeing Samsung roll out the December 2021 SMR to its devices though. Recent Android 12-based for the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, and the Galaxy S20/Note 20 series also came bundled with next month’s security patch. But the Galaxy Z Flip 5G is the first to pick up the new update with stable software. It’s now only a matter of time before other Galaxy smartphones jump on the bandwagon. Meanwhile, if you’re a Galaxy Z Flip 5G user, you can be on the lookout for this update in the coming days if you haven’t already received it. Your device should notify you of the OTA (over the air) update once it becomes available. You can also manually check for updates from the app on your phone. Simply navigate to the menu and tap to see if you have any OTA update pending download.

Google Play chooses Balance, Pokémon Unite as best apps of 2021

With December basically at our doorstep, it’s time for the annual best of lists from various publications and award-giving bodies. Google Play has now announced their best apps and games for the year, choosing meditation app Balance as the Best App and multiplayer online battle arena game Pokémon Unite as the Best Game for 2021. For the first time they have also included awards for apps and games on other devices like tablets, Wear OS, and Google TV as well as some new categories. If last year the theme was all about apps that helped us cope with the pandemic, this time around they were focused on helping people experience personal growth through creative and meditative ways. Balance was chosen as the App of the Year because of its personalized meditations. The developers said they made the app “with the individual in mind” and since no two people are the same, a personalized mental wellness program is needed. Pokémon Unite was chosen as the Best Game because of its “dynamic gameplay and cross-platform experience”. For the Users’ Choice awards, which are obviously, chosen by the users, video streaming app Paramount+ and “battle royale” game Garena Free Fire MAX got the nods for app and game of the year respectively. For the apps awards, Canva, Concepts, and Houzz were chosen for Best for Tablets while for wearables, Calm, MyFitnessPal, and Sleep Cycle were chosen. The best Google TV apps chosen were Disney+, ESPN, and Tubi. For games, there were five Best for Tablets games: – Chicken Police — Paint it RED! – League of Legends: Wild Rift – My Friend Pedro: Ripe for Revenge – Overboard! – The Procession to Calvary Winning awards like these are not just good for the apps’ names but more importantly, for their visibility. Since there are thousands of apps on the Google Play Store, it is not easy to get discovered. So having a category like Best Hidden Gems can be good for the winners like Laughscape, Moonbeam, and Moonly. For games, the Best Indies games will definitely benefit from being put on the spotlight, like the winners – 7 Billion Humans – Bird Alone – Donut County – My Friend Pedro: Ripe for Revenge – Puzzling Peaks EXE You can check out Google Play’s Best of 2021 winners in app categories like Best Apps for Good, Best Everyday Essentials, Best for Fun, and Best for Personal Growth. For games, there are categories like Best Competitive, Best Game Changers, and Best Pick Up & Play.

Rocket League Sideswipe Launched Globally On Android And iOS

Rocket League has been a really popular game for a while, so it’s only fitting that a should come. Enter,! The app version of the hit multiplayer game is now available globally to install on the Google Play store and iOS. We’re all used to playing Rocket League on a 3D soccer field, but Sideswipe is different. You’ll be facing off against characters in a 2D perspective, dashing from left to right to make the goals. To make the goals, you’ll still be doing special jumps and flips. The fields in Sideswipe are smaller in comparison to the original game, so matches might pass quicker. The field can mostly fit on the screen, which makes sense. Psyonix, the studio that developed this game, was probably looking to accommodate for the limitations with mobile hardware. Since this isn’t a full console/PC release, you can expect some cuts and compromises. Fortunately, you will have some options to customize your car. You will be able to change your car’s color and add on special items. The customization goes beyond the paint job, however. You will be able to change up the trail your car leaves behind, and you can also pick the explosion effect that happens when you make a goal. Sometimes, having a bad HUD can really ruin a mobile game. The controls in Rocket League Sideswipe are pretty basic, and they look easy to use. You move about the field using the virtual joystick, and you have buttons for jumping and boosting. The buttons are really large and easy to press. Since you’re playing on a 2D field, you won’t really need a bunch of complex controls. This means that it should be pretty easy to pick up and play this game. You won’t be paying anything to download Rocket League Sideswipe, but you’ll be paying for certain features in-game. Undoubtedly, some (if not most) of the customizations will need you to cough up some money. Also, we can expect some of the cars to cost actual money; either that or an exorbitant amount of premium currency. If you’re interested in downloading this game, it’s available for both and iOS. It’s going to be about 851MB for the Android version, and it might slow down on older phones.

Amazon Appstore is faulty in Android 12, think before upgrading

Android 12 stable version has been available for devices for a little over a month now. While most apps have made truce with the new operating system, Amazon Appstore seems to be giving a hard time to users who have made the upgrade. Complaints of the ill-functioning marketplace have been floating on Amazon forums and flooding other platforms for a long time now. According to the complaints, the Appstore is reportedly unusable on Android 12. This appears as a major goof-up from Amazon since customers who use the Appstore for their app installs are unable to launch the installed apps and games from the marketplace. It’s not that Amazon has not had enough time to get things right for a better user experience, but the company seems to have put this issue in the back seat. The brand’s technical team did acknowledge the issue instantly – when complaints started rolling in – but since the team is “still working on the resolution,” leaving users unsatisfied. It is pertinent to note that the Amazon Appstore is a major Google Play store alternative. A huge userbase uses its app library to install apps from over 460,000 applications available on the Appstore. There is no word from Amazon as to when a possible solution to the problem could be made available and when Android 12 users will be able to use the Appstore glitch-free. Until we hear something official, if you’re an Appstore fan, you’d want to – for now – reconsider your options of upgrading to Android 12.

NASA delays planned ISS spacewalk due to risk of space junk

Sad news for those who were planning to watch NASA’s scheduled spacewalk at the International Space Station today, as it’s been delayed. The spacewalk, which was expected to begin today at 7:10 AM EST, was postponed at the last minute, thanks to the detection of nearby space debris. Unfortunately for us, NASA doesn’t yet know when it will be able to perform the spacewalk and won’t until it has more details about the debris and just what kind of threat it poses. Astronauts Thomas Marshburn and Kayla Barron (pictured below) were scheduled to participate in this spacewalk today, which would have seen them replacing an S-band Antenna Subassembly installed on the Port 1 truss structure off the ISS. While NASA says that the antenna in question “recently lost its ability to send signals to Earth,” the issue has only had a “limited impact” on ISS functionality. Still, NASA wanted to replace the antenna to have communications redundancy in case other antennas went down. NASA blocked off a significant amount of time for Marshburn and Barron to perform their spacewalk and complete the antenna replacement, too, saying that the spacewalk was intended to last six and a half hours. Sadly, last night, NASA received a debris notification from the International Space Station, prompting it to delay the spacewalk. Image credit: NASA For now, we don’t know when the spacewalk will happen. In an announcement published today, NASA says that the spacewalk will be delayed “until more information is available.” Since this mission was more about maintaining redundancy in the ISS communication systems rather than fixing a critical component, there’s no major hurry to get the antenna replaced, so NASA can take all the time it needs to make sure that Marshburn and Barron won’t have to contend with space junk while they carry out their mission. The debris in low-Earth orbit has been a big topic of discussion this month, thanks not only to this spacewalk delay but also because of the anti-satellite missile test Russia carried out earlier in November. On November 15th, 2021, Russia destroyed its long-inactive Kosmos-1408 satellite, creating a debris cloud that potentially puts the crew of the ISS and the station itself at risk. The United States Space Command estimates that the explosion created at least 1,500 pieces of trackable space debris and many thousands more which are untrackable. The agency also said that the debris cloud could linger in low-Earth orbit for “years and potentially for decades.” So far, there’s been no indication from NASA that debris from that test is behind today’s delay. The European Space Agency estimates there are tens of thousands of objects greater than 10cm in size in orbit, with potentially hundreds of millions of objects smaller than that. Those small, untrackable objects still pose a threat since they’re moving at orbital speed, so it’s no wonder NASA takes reports of debris seriously. We’ll let you know when NASA has a new date for this spacewalk, along with details for how you can watch it live.

Apple Cyber Monday deals — you can still save on Apple Watch, iPad and more

There are still a few incredible Apple Cyber Monday deals available after this year’s Cyber Monday sales. Whether you’ve been dreaming of a new Apple Watch Series 7 or have had your eye on the AirPods Pro all year, there’s no time like the present to pick up an epic deal. With AirPods Pro from $170 and discounts of up to $149 on the latest MacBook Air, we’ve rounded up seven of the best Apple Cyber Monday deals still available right here, so you don’t have to go anywhere else! Hurry though, as these remaining Cyber Monday deals could end at any moment. Why Buy: If the AirPods Pro aren’t quite right for you, why not consider the newest AirPods, Apple’s AirPods 3? With up to six hours of listening time on a single charge, these AirPods also feature adaptive EQ, spatial audio with dynamic head tracking, and wireless charging. You’ll get up to 30 hours of battery life with the charging case, making them a great choice for those who are always forgetting to charge accessories. True, there’s no silicone tip like the AirPods Pro, but these little buds are comfier than previous generations of AirPods, largely due to their size which is midway between the original AirPods and the AirPods Pro. That lack of silicone tip does mean these aren’t as great in noisy environments as the AirPods Pro, so if you’re frequently out and about in noisy places, you might be better picking up the AirPods Pro so you don’t have to crank the volume for calls and music. Apple has also pulled over the touch controls from the AirPods Pro, so you can simply pinch the stem to answer calls or skip that music track you don’t want to hear right now. Like the AirPods Pro, they’re sweat and water-resistant, making them ideal for a rainy-day commute or morning run. Sound quality on these little buds is exceptional, with excellent call quality too. Want even more AirPods 3 Cyber Monday deals? Check out our roundup of the best Cyber Monday AirPods deals. Why Buy: Apple’s AirPods Pro are some of the most comfortable earbuds around. In a comparison of AirPods Pro and AirPods, you’ll notice the Pro are smaller and with a shorter stem and they come with three sets of silicone tips for a comfortable fit — and these new tips do a great job of blocking out noise. Speaking of noise, they feature active noise-cancellation (ANC) technology that’s comparable with noise-canceling headphones from brands like Bose and Sony, with transparency mode that lets you hear the world around you, should you need to. These earbuds are great for calls too, with excellent call quality even in noisy or windy conditions. And when it comes to listening to your favorite tracks, the sound quality is impressive, with clear mids and full, rounded bass. There’s Siri for voice commands, and touch controls built into each AirPod stem, so you can answer calls, skip music tracks, or turn ANC on or off. You’ll get around 4.5 to 5 hours of listening time when you’re out and about with these buds, and they’re sweat and water-resistant, great for your morning run or workout at the gym. Perhaps the best bit about the AirPods Pro though is their wireless charging case: it’s compact yet practical, keeping your buds safe from the elements while offering over 24 hours’ charging capacity for a boost on the go. You can find even more great deals on the AirPods Pro in our pick of the best AirPods Pro Cyber Monday deals. Why Buy: In our Apple Watch SE review, we mention this is “the Apple Watch for most people” and that’s absolutely true. This is a stylish watch that you’ll be happy to wear every day, and it looks as good during your workout as it does at the office or on a night out. The Apple Watch SE boasts many of the same features as the Apple Watch Series 6, but at a lower price. Visually it looks very much like the Apple Watch Series 5 and Series 6, and it’s highly customizable too. You can track a wide range of workouts and activities, including new additions like Pilates and Tai Chi, and the watch can tell you if your heart rate is low or high — plus it works with the Fitness app on iPhone to track trends over time. There’s a built-in compass, handy for outdoor adventures, too. If you’re used to the Apple Watch Series 5 or Series 6, you’ll notice this watch doesn’t have the always-on feature of newer models, so you’ll need to tap the screen or raise your wrist to turn the screen on. And the Apple Watch SE lets you reply to texts or take calls from your wrist, as well as checking notifications. If you’ve never owned an Apple Watch before, or if you’re upgrading from an older model, this is a great place to start. Keep an eye on our Apple Watch SE Cyber Monday deals page for even more great deals on a new Apple Watch SE this weekend. Why Buy: The Apple Watch Series 7 is Apple’s newest smartwatch, and it looks stylish for almost any occasion, available in a wide range of colors with interchangeable bands, so you can style it to suit your tastes. It’s not just a looker though — it’s stronger and tougher than ever before, designed with active lifestyles in mind. Whether you’re rock climbing, canoeing, or just at the gym, the crack-resistant front crystal, swim-proof design, and IPX6 dust resistance will ensure your watch stays looking as good as new. Under the hood, there’s fitness tracking for all your workouts, including Pilates and Tai Chi, heart rate monitoring with the ECG app, and a blood oxygen sensor. The Series 7 also has Mindfulness and Sleep apps for those taking a holistic approach to wellness, which can really help to boost your energy levels and workout motivation. The screen on the Apple Watch Series 7 is no slouch, with its always-on Retina display that’s 20% bigger than the Series 6. Tap to access the Apple App Store, Apple Maps, or Apple Pay, and leave your phone at home when stopping off for a coffee on your morning run. There’s a new charger too that will provide a full charge in an hour — great if you’re always forgetting to charge your watch overnight, and you can easily get a full day’s use, with some battery life leftover if you haven’t tracked a workout that day. The Apple Watch Series 7 is the best smartwatch you can buy right now, though it only works with the iPhone, so Android users will want to look elsewhere. Keep your eyes on our Apple Watch Series 7 Cyber Monday deal page, where we’ll be showcasing the best Series 7 deals this weekend. Why Buy: Apple’s newest iPad Pro is the most powerful iPad you can get. Powered by Apple’s M1 chip, it’s great for gaming, work, video editing, or multi-tasking, and handles whatever you want to do with ease. It boasts a gorgeous 11-inch Liquid Retina display with True Tone, ProMotion, and P3 wide color support — which in a nutshell means speedy response times and gorgeously vivid colors, whether you’re catching up on your favorite Netflix show or playing the latest games. ProMotion adaptive response rate is also excellent news if you’re going to be gaming on your new iPad Pro, delivering refresh rates of up to 120Hz for super-smooth, stutter-free gaming. But the iPad Pro offers more than stylish good looks and power — it’s a productivity pro too, with support for the 2nd Gen Apple Penci l, as well as Magic Keyboard and the Smart Keyboard Folio. There’s a Thunderbolt port, great for connecting external storage or displays, Face ID to keep your personal information secure, and all-day battery life to ensure you don’t run out of juice in the middle of something important. The new iPad Pro is for those who want the best, with powerful performance, a stunning screen, and excellent productivity options. Not quite sure if this is the iPad deal for you? Check out our Cyber Monday iPad deals page, which we’ll be updating with the best iPad deals around. Why Buy: The MacBook Air (2020) is the MacBook for those new to MacBooks. Or something like that. It’s the entry-level choice that’s great for freelancers, college students, or anybody looking for a budget laptop that packs a punch. The MacBook Air (2020) looks stunning, with its classy metal body and minimalist design, and boasts a gorgeous 13.3-inch Retina display. Under the hood, the 8-core M1 chip promises 3.5x faster performance than previous generations, while also using less power, and this laptop can handle anything you throw at it. Best Asus laptop deals for November 2021

If you’re on the prowl for online laptop deals, then you already know that Asus is one of the best values in the PC market (meaning it should be near the top of your list). This maker has been offering some of the best budget laptops for decades, but it’s far from a one-trick pony; today, Asus makes everything from Chromebooks and powerful gaming laptops to cutting-edge 2-in-1s. The Asus brand name is still synonymous with value, however, so no matter what type of PC you’re after, our roundup of the month’s best Asus laptop deals is sure to have what you need: Asus computers run the gamut of design, features, hardware specifications, and price brackets. If all you’re after is a cheap Asus laptop, you’ve got plenty of options to choose from. You might want to consider a Chromebook if you’re on the tightest of budgets. These Chrome OS-based laptops are very cost-effective and Asus makes some very good ones. Note that Chromebooks are typically pretty basic when it comes to specs, though (featuring mobile processors and limited flash storage), so if you’re looking for something for heavier workloads or for gaming, a Chrome OS laptop probably isn’t the best choice. That said, there are almost always Asus laptop deals to be had on cheap Windows machines at prices that compete with Chromebooks. On these, you’ll find more standard PC hardware like Intel Core and AMD Ryzen CPUs, the recommended minimum 8GB of RAM, and solid-state drives instead of skimpy eMMC flash storage. Cheap Asus laptops include the high-value VivoBook line, and some of these can be had for as little as $400-$500 when on sale (depending on hardware configurations). These are solid all-arounders for general everyday tasks like web browsing, streaming, emails, and maybe some light gaming. If you’ve got a bigger budget to play with, the Asus ZenBook and ExpertBook stables contain sleek ultrabook-style laptops for more demanding users such as professionals, remote workers, or chronic multi-taskers. These boast slimmer overall designs along with impressive hardware, and select models offer additional bells and whistles like touch displays, 2-in-1 functionality, and even dual screens as found on the unique Asus ZenBook Duo. Touchscreen and 2-in-1 laptops are very good options for artists, graphic designs, and other creatives. You can sometimes find even these premium models on sale for less than a grand when shopping around for cheap Asus laptops. Asus makes some very good portable gaming PCs as well. The Asus TUF and ROG (Republic of Gamers) lines include both reasonably priced as well as high-end gaming systems packing the latest hardware like Nvidia GeForce 16- and 20-series GPUs. The Asus TUF series falls on the more budget-friendly side of the price spectrum, with the ROG laptops like the Strix and Zephyrus packing beefier hardware and optimized displays for more serious gaming. These high-end gaming machines are the priciest members of the family but also offer the biggest potential discounts among the Asus laptop deals available online.

Jio TV: Features, launch, expected India price, and everything that we know so far

The Indian telecom giant Jio is now reported to venture into the Smart TV segment after the launch of its affordable 4G smartphone, the JioPhone Next. Although there’s no confirmation on the launch date yet, reports suggest that the Jio TV may launch sometime next year. Along with that, there are rumours about a Jio tablet that may launch alongside. Jio is known for its affordable products and services, hence, the rumoured Jio TV could follow suit. It is quite possible that Jio may bundle the TV with the set-top box that it offers with the Jio Fiber broadband connection. The Jio TV is said to come in multiple screen sizes. We may also see a custom OS running on board. Not a lot of details are available about Jio TV at present. But we expect to find more about it soon. --Jio is rumoured to be working on a couple of new hardware products. The report comes from 91mobiles which reveals that Jio may launch Jio TV and Jio tablet in 2022. Up until now, we have heard rumours about Jio’s upcoming laptop. But now reports around a new TV and tablet have begun to appear. This could be an indication that the company is looking to create an ecosystem of its products. --The company introduced the JioPhone Next recently. It was rumoured that the Jio Book laptop would launch alongside JioPhone Next, but that didn’t happen. There has been no word from Jio about the launch of Jio Book yet. So it’s possible that Jio may launch these rumoured products during the same event in 2022. --The specifications of the Jio TV are not out yet. However, we are presuming that the TV will arrive in multiple display sizes, possibly 32-inch, 43-inch and 50-inch models. The resolution on this TV may be capped to 1080p considering the affordability factor. It could also be running a custom OS. --We have also heard that Jio may bundle this rumoured TV with the set-top box it provides with the Jio Fiber connection. --As pointed earlier, Jio is working on a tablet. This tablet is expected to run Pragati OS, which Google and Jio in collaboration have designed, and we already see the JioPhone Next running it. Other than this, it is supposed to ship with an entry-level Qualcomm chipset. The tablet is likely to come preloaded with Play Store, Jio apps and a few other OTT apps. --Apart from these newly rumoured products, Jio is supposed to be working on the Jio Book. The laptop was recently spotted on GeekBench, which revealed a few details of this device. The listing states that the JioBook will be powered by MediaTek MT8788 chipset. It says that the laptop will get 2GB RAM and run Android 11 OS. --A previous report revealed that JioBook would feature a 1366x768 resolution display. It says that a Snapdragon 665 SoC could power the laptop. The laptop is supposed to come in two models. One with 2GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 32GB of eMMC 5.1 storage. And another with 4GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 64GB of eMMC 5.1 storage. --The JioBook could bring connectivity options like a mini HDMI connector, dual-band Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. It is hinted to get a three-axis accelerometer and a Qualcomm audio chip. JioBook may also bring 4G support. Along with this, the laptop is supposed to get apps like JioStore, JioMeet, and JioPages. There may also be Microsoft apps such as Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Edge, and Office. Jio TV is supposed to launch alongside the Jio tablet somewhere in 2022. At present, we do not have a specific launch date. So we will have to wait for any further leaks to find about the same. Much like the launch date, there’s barely any information about the pricing of the Jio TV. But looking at the previous pricing trends, we can assume it to be an affordable offering. For reference, the cheapest TV from Xiaomi, i.e. Mi TV 4A Pro, is priced at Rs 16,999. So we can expect the Jio TV to ship at under Rs 15,000.

Google Rolling Out Dual SIM Support For Android Auto

Back in 2019, announced that it is adding dual-SIM support to its Pixel smartphones. This was done with the release of the Android 10 operating system. Android Auto, on the other hand, got a bit late. It was almost two years later that the company announced multi-SIM support for Android Auto. Finally, it seems that the feature is rolling out for Android Auto users. According to the latest report by, if your phone comes with dual SIM support, then Android Auto will also now support it. You will have the option to select the active SIM card. The selected SIM card will be the one from which you will receive or make a phone call using Android Auto. Previously, this was not the case. Users did not have such an option to select between SIM cards. Android Auto selected the SIM card by default for making calls. However, there is a catch though. Some users of Android Auto on have reported receiving this feature, but the rollout seems to be staged. This means that the update is rolling out in a gradual manner for users. So, currently, it is rolling out for some users and it will arrive for others as time pass by. Another important point to note here is that the new update that brings dual SIM support on Android Auto arrives with app version 7.1.614554. You need to be a part of the beta program in order to enjoy this new feature on Android Auto. You will be glad to know that for some users, the same version is showing up as the stable build of Android Auto. It is available in the Google Play Store. So, you may need to check the beta program or the Play Store, if you are excited to test out this new feature. Whatever the case may be, the dual SIM support for Android Auto will eventually be available to everyone. Besides, you can try your luck by installing the latest update for the Android Auto from the Play Store and see if the feature is live for your device or not. This is a nice feature to have since almost all modern-day smartphones come with dual SIM support. They either come with two physical SIM slots or with eSIM support for dual SIM functionality. It will allow users to select primary SIM cards from the two present on their smartphones and use them as per their convenience.

Xbox Series X restock: Where you can buy right now

The Xbox Series X launched in November 2020, but even a year later, it still isn’t much easier to find. It’s normal for consoles to be scarce shortly after launch, but in this case, chip shortages have caused the Xbox Series X to be difficult to track down. If only the console were in stock as often as the games. The system’s younger brother, the Xbox Series S, is slightly more readily available, but not by much. Despite availability shortages, finding an Xbox Series X is doable if you know where to look. With some luck and patience, you’ll be able to get your hands on a new Xbox system without having to pay scalper prices, just in time for the upcoming holiday season. Many retailers have recently had Xbox Series X systems in stock for Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2021, so there’s still hope. Here are the retailers we recommend checking, along with tips to make your search easier. Oh, and if you’re looking for a PlayStation 5, we can also help out there. Recommended reading: From our experience, the Microsoft Store has frequently regained stock since the system’s launch in November 2020. It’s currently sold out of systems right now, but at least once a month, consumers have been able to get their hands on an Xbox Series X console directly from Microsoft. Fortunately, the allocation is usually plentiful, as we’ve been able to add the system to our cart even several minutes after they’ve been made available for purchase — which is more than we can say for buying a PS5 directly through Sony. Going through the Microsoft Store will likely be your best bet when compared with other retailers, as it features more inventory more frequently. Still, it doesn’t hurt to try other retailers. Speaking of which, the Microsoft Store links to other retailers that also carry the system, though, currently, almost all are sold out as well. Still, it doesn’t hurt to keep checking. Sadly, it doesn’t appear like Microsoft had any available for Black Friday or Cyber Monday. Amazon is currently out of traditional Xbox Series X models. Occasionally, new stock will pop in and quickly sell out, so it’s worth checking in with this page from time to time and possibly sign up to get email updates for the page. What are available are collectible versions of the Series X being resold at high prices by third-party stores on Amazon, which may be an option if you’re desperate, but given how frequently Xbox Series X systems become available, we’d advise against this route. Currently, the Xbox Series S model is available through Amazon, so we recommend that if you’re OK with a less powerful machine. Amazon last had Xbox Series X systems on November 21. Best Buy is a good option if you have a Best Buy card and want to choose a financing option. You can also add a Geek Squad warranty for $70, which lasts for two years and covers all kinds of console-related mishaps. It’s unavailable at Best Buy right now but has frequently popped in stock since the system launched. The last time Best Buy had the system in stock was on November 18. Walmart has a very robust in-stock alert system that we suggest you sign up for. The retailer also makes some effort to stagger stock rollouts to help discourage bots and make it easier for people to find consoles throughout the day, which makes it a nice site to check in on. According to the site, Xbox Series X systems will be available starting on November 22, so be sure to visit Walmart to verify availability. Walmart actually had Xbox Series X systems in stock for Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but has since sold out. Note that GameStop also has separate pages for a couple of different options. There was a Launch Day bundle for $905 that included Gears Tactics and AC: Valhalla, as well as an Elite Controller and a headset, but this has since sold out, along with the standard version. The site also has a separate page for signing up for the All Access package, which is a payment plan through Microsoft that includes access to GamePass as well as the Series X for installments of $35 per month. Availability for the All Access package is currently live, though it requires a credit check. This might be your best bet if you’d rather pay for your system in monthly installments, as you would a smartphone. Though it ultimately means overpaying for the system, so it’s a tossup. You can also find pre-owned systems in stock sometimes, but we advise staying away from used hardware. Lenovo took down its Series X webpage, possibly in an attempt to avoid confusion and deter bots until they get new stock in and are ready to start selling. But it appears the page is available once more, despite being sold out of Xbox Series X systems. We haven’t had much luck finding stock at this retailer, but it’s worth checking anyway. Newegg hasn’t been great about availability since the Xbox Series X first launched, but there have been a few different bundles that appear from time to time. Options primarily differ based on what controller color you want at this time. You can also set up a notification system so you know when consoles are in stock. This page will show all available Xbox Series X and Series S models so you can see them all at once. Target has also been lousy about extra allocation since the system’s launch, but you might as well keep the retailer on your list, just in case. The website tells you when consoles are available to ship or purchase in-store. Note that Target is another site that makes signing up for the All Access payment plan super simple if you would prefer to pay that way. You can also choose a two-year warranty to go with your Xbox system. Below is the landing page for the Xbox Series line of consoles, but both are sold out. Sam’s Club has had a couple of notable extra bundles, such as a Series X that comes with a RIG 500 Pro HX headset, but these have sold out. Stock has appeared semi-regularly since the system launched, but all consoles are sold out right now. Antonline is yet another retailer that consistently has Xbox Series X stock, even if it sells out quickly. We advise checking this retailer daily, as they seem to have some connection at Microsoft based on how frequently the system appears on the site. The company had Xbox Series X systems for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Yes, you can, because a variety of eBay sellers (and various bots) stocked up when the Xbox Series X was released on November 10, 2020. However, the big catch is that these sellers are marking up the Series X by at least a few hundred dollars — you’re basically paying for a guaranteed delivery if other sources run out of stock. It’s not the most reliable or safest option, but it could be a possibility if you’re in a hurry. We highly suggest avoiding this option if possible since there have been reports of scams. You can, of course, get your money back, thanks to eBay’s guarantee, but that’s a major hassle. Plus, you’ll pay a pretty penny for a system that you can find at the retail price elsewhere if you’re patient. By far, the most effective way to track down a new Xbox Series X system is to follow Twitter user Wario64. This might seem like an odd suggestion, but this Twitter user frequently tweets when stock goes live across various retailers and includes links for easy access. If you want an Xbox Series X now, we recommend following Wario64 with notifications turned on so you know when stock is up. Wario64 recently tweeted that BJ’s had a Halo Infinite console bundle in stock. As you can see in the tweet above, Xbox Series X| S stock was available in September via the Microsoft Store, but availability has appeared more recently. We’ve seen Best Buy, Sam’s Club, and other stores featured on Wario64’s account — with many opportunities to buy the console each week (and in many cases, multiple times a week). Using this method, you’ll know right when allocation is available, saving you the hassle and headache of simply trying to refresh on a retailer’s website. The nice thing is that Wario only posts allocation notices from retailers, meaning you’ll never have to pay scalper prices if you use this method.

Newest Nest Thermostat is somehow still $89 in Amazon Cyber Week sale

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, we may receive an affiliate commission. If you ask most people, they’ll tell you the Nest Learning Thermostat is the best smart thermostat out there. It was the first model to kickstart the smart thermostat crazy. And what’s crazy is that all these years later, it’s still one of the best. But now, there’s a much less expensive Nest that’s just as good. And thanks to Cyber Week Nest Thermostat deals, it’s on sale for just $89.99! There is no question whatsoever that this deal is a sellout risk. Delivery estimates are already slipping for some colorways. Others are no longer down to $89.99. In other words, you should hurry up or you might miss out. Image source: Nest/Amazon The first-generation Nest Learning Thermostat on Amazon packed a range of brilliant convenience and energy-saving features. It also had a design that was sleek and stylish. Needless to say, it was a total game-changer when it was first released. Long story short, the Nest Learning Thermostat had it all. What you might not realize, however, is that there are other options like the newest Nest Thermostat that are just as good but half the price. It seems like most people out there believe that Nest’s flagship thermostat is still the best smart thermostat on the planet. Truth be told, you won’t hear any arguments from us. In fact, we use the Learning Thermostat in our own home and we love it. The problem is that the Nest Learning Thermostat is quite expensive compared to some of the newer options out there. Even when it’s on sale at a discount on Amazon, it’s still usually over $200. The good news is that you can get all the smart features that make Nest’s Learning Thermostat so great in the newer, less expensive model called simply the Nest Thermostat. It retails for $130 and that’s already a bargain. But, if you head to Amazon right now, you’ll see that Nest’s Thermostat is on sale with a rare discount for Cyber Week 2021. The newest Nest Thermostat doesn’t have the same sleek stainless steel design as the flagship model. But if you ask us, it features a different design that’s just as stylish. The face of the new Nest has a unique mirror finish with a digital display underneath it. It also comes in four different colors to match any home decor. Most importantly, of course, the Nest Thermostat includes all of the important smart features from the flagship model. You’ll be able to control your thermostat from anywhere using the Nest app or your voice thanks to Google Assistant and Alexa support, and you’ll save plenty of money on your energy bill thanks to Nest’s intelligent features that tune your settings constantly and learn from your behavior. With a list price of just $130, Google’s newest Nest Thermostat is a terrific value. All things considered, it may very well be the best value out there. Plus, it’s going to pay for itself in savings on your energy bills. But if you head over to Amazon right now and pick one up, you’ll pay just $89.99. That matches Prime Day’s all-time low price from earlier this year! The only bad news is that we’ve seen this discount disappear already on a few different color options. That means you probably don’t have much time left to get in on the action. Image source: Google/Amazon Google’s newest Nest Thermostat has all the same features as the pricier model. What it doesn’t have, however, is that signature stainless steel design. The Nest Learning Thermostat is so sleek and sophisticated that many people out there are willing to pay more for it. If you want the best of the best, there’s nothing wrong with that. After all, it still pays for itself in energy savings! Head over to Amazon right now and you’ll find a limited-time discount. It’s still a lot more than the base model, but it’s worth the extra cash to plenty of people out there. On the rare occasions that the Nest Thermostat goes on sale at Amazon, you have to take advantage. Here are the key takeaways so you know what you’re getting: If you’re looking for all the best deals for Cyber Week 2021 available right now, you’ll find them in our extensive coverage. Google app testing bottom Search bar on Android in reachability redesign

With the Pixel 2, the Pixel Launcher was revamped to place the search field at the bottom of your screen. Four years later, the Google app looks to be readying something similar with a bottom Search bar redesign. Today, the Google app has the Search bar just underneath the company logo/daily Doodle at the top of the screen. Some users are now seeing the field appear just above the bottom bar in a rather busy design. Your profile avatar and the weather pill remain unchanged. It’s visible when you open the app, but disappears when you scroll up and reappears when doing the opposite. For one user with this bottom Search bar redesign, force stopping the Google app and clearing cache does not remove the change. As such, this appears to be a purposeful design decision rather than a visual bug. That said, Google could decide not to widely introduce this revamp. In all, this move aids reachability on ever-growing screen sizes. However, it comes as the expense of a very cluttered bottom bar that’s now quite unconventional in Android app design. In the dark theme screenshots, we see how the search bar is not exactly attached to the bottom bar, but rather part of a new background layer. There’s already a “Search” tab that opens the keyboard immediately, but Google needs to have its iconic field always visible. Check out 9to5Google on YouTube for more news:

YouTube App For Android TV Gets A New Playlist UI

In a recent development, YouTube is giving a small UI tweak to its app. This notably changes the way the YouTube Android TV/Google TV app handles playlists. According to a new report by (via), previously, when you played a playlist on the YouTube Android app, it would start playing all videos on the playlist. However, now with the latest update, this behavior is finally changing. The new YouTube Android TV app UI handles the playlist better. This new interface displays the name of the playlist along with a list of videos in it. It also shows Play all, Loop, and Save to Library buttons on the left side, giving more flexibility to the user on what they want to do with the playlist. Videos will appear on the left side of these buttons. Hitting the Play all button, as the name suggests, will play all videos in the playlist in sequence or click on any particular video a user wishes to play. The new YouTube Android TV/Google TV playlist UI is also rolling out for other TV brands, such as Samsung TV. For Samsung TV users, the feature is arriving with YouTube Android app version 2.1.498. As per reports, the new playlist UI is rolling out for YouTube Android TV/Google TV app version 2.15.498. So, if you don’t see this new change in the playlist UI, then you may want to check Google Play Store. If a new latest app version is available, then you can update the YouTube app and enjoy the new feature. Folks at 9To5Google note that this is a server-side update, and if this is true, then there isn’t anything that you can do. So, if the feature isn’t live for you, then you probably need to wait for your device’s turn to receive the new feature. Google is adding multiple new features to Google TV. It brought a new interface that runs on top of Android TV. Moreover, the new interface also adds multi-user support to Android TV, allowing users to create different profiles for different members of the family. Google has also added new glanceable cards in ambient mode along with other features. Recently, it also added a virtual remote control to the Google Home app for controlling Google TV. This allows you to control your TV right from your Android device.

NASA Postpones Spacewalk Due to Deadly Debris

Deadly debris continues to haunt the astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS). NASA postponed a spacewalk scheduled for today after receiving a “debris notification” for the ISS, according to an updated press release from the agency. The astronauts were slated to replace a broken antenna system before the spacewalk was called off. “Due to the lack of opportunity to properly assess the risk it could pose to the astronauts, teams have decided to delay the Nov. 30 spacewalk until more information is available,” NASA said in the release.
